There was a great article in the demised AVID magazine written by
Steve Worley about how he goes about creating objects from models.
(It was a reprint from his own book 'Understanding Imagine')
Basically, from what I remember, he would make a mold of the model,
fill it with some sort of foam or plastic, wait for it to harden,
then CUT(!!) the new model into slices which he would then trace
the outline of each of the slices, and would end up with a cross-section
of the object, then would 'skin' the sections back into the object.
This sounds like alot, but you can get some great models from it.
